liberalsarecool:

We are a liberal society. We are composed of liberal beliefs. Democracy is liberal. Education is liberal. Freedoms are liberal. The First Amendment is liberal. Separation of Church and State is liberal. Innocent until proven guilty is liberal. Our socialist society of civil servants is liberal. Social Security and Medicare are liberal. Free markets correcting themselves is liberal. Freedom of religion is liberal.

Conservatives get to live in this liberal socialist society with all its great and not so great standards. Instead of building on this society as whole, their politicians, pundits, and talking heads find ways to exploit cultural ‘tribal thinking’ and insecurities in certain pockets of the country and develop wedge issues and identity politics to gain supporters.

Their collective goal is to eliminate the very principles and ‘social justices’ that have been in place for centuries. They get to run against liberal ideals they can never eliminate, and for that, the idea that “liberalism” having to be stopped, becomes a meaningless, mindless dogma of the politically confused. You can’t stop it. It is an intrinsic part of the entire country.

Yet, with this canard of “if only we could get rid of liberals”, they yearn to “restore” the country to a time that never really existed. That only they can accomplish. Beware of such ideologies. Conservative Kool-Aid is not the answer. The nature of our country is to include everyone. To take care of those who need help. In this tough economy, now is not the time to forget.

pantslessprogressive:

“The glorification of the corporation over the past thirty years has been predicated in large part on the myth that corporations are solely dedicated to maximizing shareholder value. But corporations only maximize shareholder value if shareholders have a way to keep executives and employees in line and prevent them from simply lining their own pockets. Decades of research have shown numerous failings in the standard corporate governance model: boards that are stuffed with cronies of the CEO, directors who have no ability to evaluate what their companies are actually doing, massive golden parachutes that insulate CEOs against failure, and so on. Poor oversight of political activity may be another to add to the list.

There is much work still to be done on corporate political activity and its implications for shareholders. But the early evidence is that we cannot simply assume, as the Supreme Court did in Citizens United, that shareholder pressure will magically ensure that a company’s political spending is always in its best interests. In this context, the need for improved disclosure is even more urgent.” - James Kwak

One of the few remaining limits on corporations’ power to buy and sell American elections is that corporations are not allowed to give money directly to federal candidates. Citizens United frees them to spend billions of dollars running ads or otherwise trying to change the result of an election to suit their interests, but corporations cutting checks directly to candidates or to political committees such as the Republican National Committee is one of the few things the Supreme Court’s conservatives have not yet imposed upon the country.

If the RNC gets its way, however, that will soon change. In a brief filed yesterday in the Fourth Circuit, the RNC argues that the federal ban on corporate donations is unconstitutional in large part because it applies across the board to all corporations

BLACK MARCH
Thursday, March 1st 2012 to Saturday 31st March 2012

With the continuing campaigns for Internet-censoring litigation such as SOPA and PIPA, and the closure of sites such as Megaupload under allegations of ‘piracy’ and ‘conspiracy’ the time has come to take a stand against music, film and media companies’ lobbyists.

The only way is to hit them where it truly hurts.
Their profit margins.

March 2012 is the end of the 1st quarter in economic reports worldwide.

Do not buy a single record. Do not download a single song, legally or illegally. Do not go to see a single film in cinemas, or download a copy, Do not buy a DVD in the stores. Do not buy a videogame. Do not buy a single book or magazine.

Wait the 4 weeks to buy them in April: see the film later, etc. Holding out for just 4 weeks, maximum, will leave a gaping hole in media and entertainment companies’ profits for the 1st quarter, an economic hit which will in turn be observed by governments worldwide as stocks and shares will blip from a large enough loss of incomes.
This action can give a statement of intent:

”We will not tolerate the Media Industries’ lobbying for legistation which will censor the internet.”

Anonymous asked: Which would you rather: Christianity is real or Doctor Who is real?

religiousragings:

O.O

Do you really have to ask?

Of course, if Doctor Who is real, the world has to worry about constant alien annihilation, but with the doctor on the job, I wouldn’t worry too much.  And if he fails (a blasphemous proposition, I admit), the worst that could happen is that we will all, like, die.

But if Christianity is real, that means that by far and away the vast majority of people alive today and throughout history will or are already burning in eternal torment, while those who do manage to make it to heaven will be spending eternity with the likes of Jerry Falwell and the dudes who used to torture people during the Spanish Inquisition.

And in one of those realities, I have a chance of eventually getting a sonic screwdriver.

So, honestly, there isn’t really a choice here, is there?

If you want to do something big in your life, you must remember that shyness is only the mind. If you think shy, you act shy. If you think confident you act confident. Therefore never let shyness conquer your mind.
